One way to define self-confidence is by trusting the self and recognizing individual abilities. By contrast, not having self-confidence means often doubting and feeling powerless. There are times when both types of beliefs can affect how to handle life's challenges.

Why Would Self-Confidence Be Good or Bad?

Sometimes, having too much self-confidence makes us bold, and we get ourselves into trouble. Imagine being dared by a friend to run across the road between moving cars, which is also called the game of chicken. Such recklessness could quickly get anyone killed. On the other hand, not having self-confidence can hold us back from doing many things.  


It’s vital to stay on top of mental health, trust oneself, and actively work on self-esteem. Without this essential habit, missing out on life's most fulfilling experiences is easy, such as meeting new people and experiencing different activities.


In a negative mindset, pain, disappointment, failure, and other nasty things happen. With the wrong mindset, bad experiences might come. Furthermore, negative thinking stops people from applying for better jobs, ending bad relationships, and seeking other opportunities to help them grow and feel happier. They do not feel good enough or worthy enough to succeed.


Valuing and accepting one's achievements does not limit the possibility to grow in the future. Let us practice a very well-known mantra and be thankful for what we already have while working towards what we want. Desire to succeed is nothing to be ashamed of, and we should always strive to kaizen our lives!

Tips for Building Self-Confidence

We live in a unique time when most adults and children are staying home undefinedly and have had to abandon what was expected. Many have temporarily shifted to work-at-home and sheltering in place to minimize exposure to the Coronavirus.


Soon, we will be returning to work and redefining routines, and we also carry with us the changes social isolation provoked. We can improve our mindset and self-confidence by giving enough attention to self-care. Self-actualization starts with creating new patterns for success. Here are some things to do to boost confidence immediately:

  • Keep your home and work areas clean, organized, and comfortable.
  • Make a new morning routine that you can follow whether you will be at home or going to work. This routine works on vacation days as well. Following a routine gives you a sense of control over your attitude, feelings, and environment.
  • Get yourself showered and dressed every day. It can be self-defeating to sit around in your pajamas all day.
  •  Improve your diet. This may require joining an app or nutrition program or talking with your doctor. You need the right amount of vitamins, protein, carbohydrates, and water to be healthy and to maintain enough energy to complete your daily activities.
  • Make time for social support and recreation.
  • Surround yourself with positive people. If you are working in an unsatisfactory job or around negative people, dare to make a change.
  • Write down goals. You will only feel successful when you're devoting your daily efforts (mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual) to goals that are personally meaningful.


There is more to life than getting through the day. Increase self-confidence by listening to one's needs and feeling empowered by daily accomplishments. These are the keys to balancing mental health with the needs of others!
